⬡ SCAN CRITERIA

The scanner applies the following filters in real time. Only tickers meeting these criteria appear in the momentum table — keeping the noise out and the signal clean.

PRICE RANGE
$0.90–$20
Focuses on the price range where momentum moves are most actionable. Sub-$0.90 stocks are too illiquid and unpredictable. Above $20 the percentage moves tend to be smaller and require more capital.
MINIMUM VOLUME
50,000
Deliberately kept low. Many scanners demand 1M+ volume or use relative volume filters — but by the time a ticker hits those thresholds, the first move is often already done. A lower floor keeps continuation moves visible. If a ticker is moving with 50k volume, it's worth watching.
ACTIVITY FILTER
8+ prints
To qualify as HOT a ticker must have at least 8 trades and 5,000 volume in the current rolling window. Tickers with sporadic or thin prints stay off the HOT list — keeping the signal clean even when overall session volume is low.
SURGE THRESHOLD
2% / 60s
A surge alert fires when a ticker moves 2% or more within a 60-second window at or near its high of day. 30-second cooldown prevents repeated alerts on the same move.
WATCHLIST INTELLIGENCE
AUTOMATIC EVICTION
Tickers that fade below 7.5% change or drop below 50,000 shares in the last 15 minutes are removed automatically every 60 seconds. The scanner shows what's moving right now — not what was moving an hour ago.
3-MINUTE VOLUME RECENCY GATE
Instead of relative volume — which drifts and loses accuracy as the session progresses — we require 50,000 shares traded in the last 3 minutes. The rule is identical at 09:15 and at 01:00 GMT. No baseline decay, no time-of-day dependency.
CHANGE % CALCULATED FROM SESSION OPEN
Broker change fields can misreport during premarket and early session hours. MomoScan calculates its own change % from the session open price on every trade tick. A ticker fading from +15% to +7% shows +7% — not +15%.
TRADE HALT MONITOR
Real-time LULD volatility pauses, news halts and regulatory suspensions are tracked live. A red HALT badge appears inline on any halted ticker's momentum or volume row — no need to cross-reference a separate feed.
MOMENTUM SIGNALS
HOT Strong buy-side pressure — score above 0.4, positive change, active recent prints.
WARM Mild buying bias — score above -0.1. Worth watching but not yet committed.
COOL Mild sell-side bias — score above -0.4. Momentum fading or directionless.
COLD Heavy sell-side pressure — score below -0.4. Distribution or active selling.
